Diploma of Languages/ Ancient Languages

Applications for Diploma of Languages/Ancient Languages Session 2, 2012 are now Open

Applications will close on Friday 8 June 2012. No late applications will be accepted.

Macquarie University offers a range of qualifications for the study of languages. Admission to these qualifications are only available via direct application to Macquarie University. All programs are available to study on a part-time basis only.

While most applications are successful, admission is not automatic. The Department of International Studies or the Department of Ancient History will advise the Coursework Studies Section whether a place will be available for you.

Notification of Result of Application

Notification of the result of the application will be forwarded by email on Friday 22 June 2012.

Enrolment

These language courses will commence on Monday, 30 July 2012. Enrolment will be held during July 2012. Enrolment details can be viewed in late June 2012 on-line here.

Diploma in Languages

Who Can Apply

Admission to the Diploma of Languages is open to all applicants (no admission criteria including no minimum ATAR).

    • Asian Languages - Chinese (Not available by Distance)
    • European Languages - Croatian
    • European Languages - French
    • European Languages - German
    • European Languages - Italian
    • European Languages - Modern Greek
    • European Languages - Polish
    • European Languages - Russian
    • European Languages - Spanish
Please note that not all languages are offered at beginners level in Session 2.

The Diploma in Languages requires the completion of 24 credit points.

The maximum Credit for Previous Studies for Macquarie non-award units or similar units at another tertiary institution where the units do not form part of a completed award is 12 credit points.

If you transfer units from a Macquarie University degree these units will only count towards the Diploma and not the other course of study. To request specific units transfer from your Macquarie degree to the Diploma in Languages, please fill in an Enquire via Online Form.

Candidates for the Diploma may transfer to the Bachelor of Arts prior to satisfying requirements for the Diploma. Once you receive 12 credit points with a GPA of 2.0 or above, you are then eligible to submit a course transfer request.

Diploma in Ancient Languages (no mid-year intake)

If you have studied at tertiary institution, Macquarie University requires you to provide either an original official academic transcript, or a certified copy of the original with your application. If you do not provide this information, your application will not be considered. Documents can be certified at the Student Enquiry Service. You will need to bring with you the original document(s) and photocopies of the document(s).

If you have studied at Macquarie University previously, we will access your results directly.

The programs are Commonwealth Supported where HECS-HELP is available for those who meet the Citizenship requirements.
